Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 2 cups pitted cherries
  • ¼ cup sugar
  • ¼ cup kirsch or brandy
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch optional, for thickening
  • 1 pint vanilla ice cream for serving

Instructions

  1. 1. In a skillet, combine cherries, sugar, and lemon juice. Cook over medium heat until the cherries release their juices and the sugar dissolves, about 5 minutes.
  2. 2. If using, dissolve cornstarch in a small amount of water and add to the skillet. Cook until the sauce thickens, about 2 minutes.
  3. 3. Remove the skillet from heat and add the kirsch or brandy. Carefully ignite the alcohol with a lighter or match. Let the flames subside.
  4. 4. Serve the cherries and sauce over vanilla ice cream.
