Cake
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 cups sugar
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 1 cup butter unsalted
- 1 cup water
- ¼ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- ½ cup buttermilk
- 2 large eggs beaten
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Frosting
- ½ cup butter unsalted
- ¼ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- ¼ cup milk
- 3 ½ cups powdered sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a baking sheet.
In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, baking soda, and salt.
In a saucepan, melt the butter. Add water and cocoa powder, and bring to a boil. Remove from heat and pour over the dry ingredients. Mix well.
Add buttermilk, beaten eggs, and vanilla extract to the mixture. Stir until smooth.
Pour the batter into the prepared baking sheet. Bake for 20 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
For the frosting, melt butter in a saucepan. Add cocoa powder and milk, and bring to a boil. Remove from heat and stir in powdered sugar and vanilla extract until smooth.
Pour the frosting over the warm cake. Let it cool before serving.
