1. In a large mixing bowl, dissolve yeast in warm water. Let it stand until creamy, about 10 minutes.
2. Mix in sugar, butter, salt, and egg. Add 2 cups of flour and mix until smooth. Stir in remaining flour, ½ cup at a time, until the dough is soft.
3. Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface until smooth and elastic, about 8 minutes. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise until doubled in size, about 1 hour.
4. Punch down the dough and divide it into 12 equal pieces. Shape each piece into a roll and place on a greased baking sheet. Cover and let rise until doubled, about 30 minutes.
5. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Bake rolls in preheated oven for 12-15 minutes, or until golden brown.
