Ingredients 

Main Ingredients

  • 1 package phyllo dough thawed
  • 2 cups walnuts chopped
  • 1 cup butter melted

Syrup

  • 1 cup water
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup honey
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Instructions 

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Butter the bottoms and sides of a 9x13 inch baking dish.
  3. Layer 8 sheets of phyllo dough in the dish, brushing each with melted butter.
  4. Sprinkle a thin layer of chopped walnuts over the dough.
  5. Repeat layers until all ingredients are used, ending with a layer of 8 sheets of phyllo dough.
  6. Cut into diamond or square shapes before baking.
  7. Bake for 45 minutes or until golden brown.
  8. While baklava is baking, combine water and sugar in a saucepan over medium heat. Bring to a boil, then add honey, vanilla extract, and cinnamon. Simmer for 20 minutes.
  9. Remove baklava from oven and immediately spoon syrup over it. Let cool completely before serving.
