Greek Baklava Recipe
Classic Greek dessert with layers of phyllo dough, nuts, and honey syrup.

- 1 package phyllo dough thawed
- 2 cups walnuts chopped
- 1 cup butter melted
Syrup
- 1 cup water
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 cup honey
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
Butter the bottoms and sides of a 9x13 inch baking dish.
Layer 8 sheets of phyllo dough in the dish, brushing each with melted butter.
Sprinkle a thin layer of chopped walnuts over the dough.
Repeat layers until all ingredients are used, ending with a layer of 8 sheets of phyllo dough.
Cut into diamond or square shapes before baking.
Bake for 45 minutes or until golden brown.
While baklava is baking, combine water and sugar in a saucepan over medium heat. Bring to a boil, then add honey, vanilla extract, and cinnamon. Simmer for 20 minutes.
Remove baklava from oven and immediately spoon syrup over it. Let cool completely before serving.
