Ingredients

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 packet active dry yeast
  • 1 cup warm water
  • 2 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 tablespoon dried Italian herbs (basil, oregano, thyme)

Instructions 

  1. In a large bowl, dissolve sugar in warm water. Sprinkle yeast over the top, and let it sit until foamy, about 5 minutes.
  2. Stir in olive oil, salt, and Italian herbs. Add flour gradually, mixing until a dough forms.
  3. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 8 minutes, until smooth and elastic.
  4. Place dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let rise in a warm place until doubled in size, about 1 hour.
  5. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Punch down the dough and shape it into a loaf. Place on a greased baking sheet.
  6. Bake for 30 minutes, or until the bread is golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped.
