Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 packet active dry yeast
  • ½ cup sugar
  • ½ cup milk warm
  • ¼ cup butter melted
  • 2 eggs beaten
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 quart oil for frying

Instructions 

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine warm milk, yeast, and a pinch of sugar. Let it sit for 5 minutes until frothy.
  2. In another bowl, whisk together flour, remaining sugar, and salt.
  3. Add melted butter and beaten eggs to the yeast mixture. Mix well.
  4. Gradually add the flour mixture to the wet ingredients, stirring until a dough forms.
  5. Cover the dough and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  6. Heat oil in a frying pan over medium heat.
  7. Using a spoon, drop small balls of dough into the hot oil. Fry until golden brown on all sides.
  8. Remove malasadas with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels. Roll in sugar while still warm.
