  • 6 tablespoon sugar
  • 4 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 4 egg yolks
  • 2 tablespoon butter

Instructions 

  1. In a saucepan, heat the milk and vanilla until just boiling.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together sugar, cornstarch, and egg yolks until smooth.
  3. Gradually whisk the hot milk into the egg mixture.
  4. Return the mixture to the saucepan and cook over medium heat, whisking constantly, until thickened.
  5. Remove from heat and stir in the butter until melted and smooth.
  6. Transfer to a bowl, cover with plastic wrap directly on the surface, and chill until ready to use.
