Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • ¼ cup sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
  • cup milk
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions 

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  3. Cut in the cold butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. In another bowl, whisk together milk, egg, and vanilla extract.
  5. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix until just combined.
  6. Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead gently.
  7. Pat the dough into a circle about 1 inch thick and cut into 8 wedges.
  8. Place the wedges on a baking sheet and bake for 15 minutes or until golden brown.
