Ingredients 

Meatballs

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 0.5 cup bread crumbs
  • 0.25 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 0.25 cup chopped parsley
  • 1 egg
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Sauce

  • 2 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 1 can crushed tomatoes (28 oz)
  • 1 can tomato paste (6 oz)
  • 1 can tomato sauce (15 oz)
  • 0.5 cup water
  • 2 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • 0.5 teaspoon fennel seeds
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 0.25 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
  • 0.5 teaspoon black pepper

Instructions 

  1. In a large bowl, combine ground beef, bread crumbs, Parmesan cheese, parsley, egg, garlic, salt, and pepper. Mix well and form into meatballs.
  2. In a large pot, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add meatballs and cook until browned on all sides. Remove meatballs and set aside.
  3. In the same pot, add chopped onion and cook until translucent. Add crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, tomato sauce, and water. Stir well.
  4. Add sugar, basil, fennel seeds, Italian seasoning, red pepper flakes, and black pepper. Stir to combine.
  5. Return meatballs to the pot. Simmer on low heat for 1 hour, stirring occasionally.
